Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 October 2026
The short version. AutoplayMute runs entirely inside your browser. It has no server, no account system and no analytics. We do not collect, store, sell or share your browsing history, the pages you open or anything you watch.
1. Who we are
AutoplayMute (“we”, “us”) provides a free Chrome extension that stops videos and audio from playing automatically on the websites you visit. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with information, and applies to both the extension and the website at autoplaymute.com.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect personal data. Specifically, the extension does not collect or transmit:
- your browsing history, the URLs you visit or the content of pages;
- what videos or audio appear on those pages, or what you choose to play;
- your name, email address or any account identifiers — there are no accounts;
- IP addresses, device identifiers or advertising identifiers;
- analytics, telemetry or usage statistics of any kind.
3. How the extension works with page content
To stop autoplay, the extension must see the video and audio elements on the page you are viewing, including ones added later by the site's own scripts. That inspection happens locally, in your browser, in real time. Nothing it reads is copied, stored or sent to us or to any third party. When you close the tab, nothing remains.
4. Media content
The extension does not download, record, capture or analyse the content of any video or audio. It only pauses and mutes playback that begins without your action. Your camera and microphone are never accessed.
5. Local settings
Your allow list — the sites where you want autoplay to keep working — is saved in your browser's local extension storage so it survives a restart. It stays on your device. You can erase it at any time by removing the extension or clearing its storage through Chrome's extension settings.
6. Permissions we request
Chrome requires an extension to declare the permissions it needs. AutoplayMute requests access to the pages you visit solely in order to detect media elements and prevent them from playing on their own. It does not use that access for any other purpose.
7. Third parties
The extension contains no third-party trackers, advertising SDKs or analytics libraries. We do not sell or share data with anyone, because we do not hold any. Note that the Chrome Web Store, operated by Google, processes installation and review data under its own policies when you install the extension.
8. This website
autoplaymute.com is a static website. It sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, whose servers may log a standard request when your browser fetches them. Our hosting provider may keep basic server logs for security and reliability, in line with normal industry practice.
9. Children
AutoplayMute is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. As no information is collected from anyone, this is a matter of policy rather than of data handling.
10. Your rights
Data-protection laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to retrieve or erase. Removing the extension removes everything it kept on your device.
11. Changes to this policy
If the extension's behaviour ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the date above. Continued use of the extension after an update means you accept the revised policy.
