Free Instant 100% local Zero data collected

Open a page. Hear nothing.

You clicked a headline, not a broadcast. AutoplayMute stops videos and audio that start on their own — the clip above the article, the ad in the sidebar, the sticky player that follows you down the page.

How it works

Autoplay is not a feature you asked for. It exists because a video that starts on its own counts as a view — and you are the one who has to find the mute button, usually with a room full of people listening.

It catches players before they start

As the page loads, the extension finds every video and audio element on it — including the ones injected later by ad scripts — and cancels the play they never asked permission for.

Your play button still works

Nothing is removed from the page. The player stays exactly where it was, paused and silent, and starts the moment you decide to press play.

Nothing leaves your browser

All of it runs locally on your machine. No account, no cloud, no record of what you watched or read — because there is no server on the other end at all.

Why people use it

Silence should be the default. Sound is something you turn on.

No more scrambling for mute

Open a link in a meeting, a library or a sleeping house without that half-second of panic hunting for which tab is making noise.

Articles you can actually read

No sticky player taking over a third of the screen, no clip restarting every time you scroll back up.

Lighter pages, less data

A video that never starts is a video that is never downloaded. Noticeable on a phone tethering plan, and on older laptops where autoplay spins up the fan.

Privacy by design, not by promise

The extension has no analytics and no remote calls. What you browse stays on your device because it never had anywhere else to go.

Get started in seconds

There is nothing to configure and no account to create.

1

Add it to Chrome

Open the Chrome Web Store listing and click “Add to Chrome”. The install takes one click.

2

Keep browsing

No setup screen, no onboarding. The next news article you open stays quiet.

3

Allow the sites you watch

Video sites you visit on purpose keep working. Add any other site to the allow list with one click from the toolbar icon.

Questions, answered

Will it break YouTube, Netflix or Spotify?

No. Sites you visit specifically to watch or listen are on the allow list from the start, so they behave exactly as before. You can add or remove sites from that list at any time.

Can I still play the video myself?

Yes. The player stays on the page, paused. Press play and it works normally, with sound. AutoplayMute only stops playback that starts without you.

Does it block ads?

It is not an ad blocker. Ads still load and display — they just cannot start making noise on their own. If a video ad is set to autoplay, it stays paused and silent.

Does AutoplayMute collect any data about me?

No. It has no accounts, no analytics and no server. Which pages you open and what plays on them never leaves your browser.

Is it really free?

Yes. No paid tier, no trial, no ads inside the extension.
